Kuldeep Singh has held the position of Senior Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Hertfordshire for over twenty years, where he teaches linear algebra to entry level undergraduates. He is also the author of Engineering Mathematics through Applications (Palgrave Macmillan), a book that used widely as the basis for undergraduate studies in many different countries. He hosts and regularly updates his Maths for All website.

Don't read on a tablet.

(Please note that I am reviewing the Kindle version, although the review says I'm reviewing the paperback.)
I've only been through the first 20 pages so far and will write a full review after finishing the book. The first point I want to make is that this book is no good on a tablet (at least, on a 7" Android tablet). The formatting is inconsistent and the formulas are frequently (but not always!) small graphics that can't be scaled. I won't complain about this because it was noted that this book was optimized for large screens. On a laptop it looks perfect. Expect to read the Kindle version of this book on a computer.
I can say this much so far. The book starts out from a totally practical, "here is why you should care" perspective, and I love it. Most linear algebra books and courses begin by leaping straight into some severely abstract things. (Strang's course is an example.) This book begins with real-world problems, and then uses basic algebra to tackle them. Only after having gone through this is the concept of a matrix introduced, and the reason for introducing it is to demonstrate an easier, faster, more reliable way to solve the real-world problem that was approached with algebra.
I took an online course in programming linear algebra in python, and so it suffered from two problems from the perspective of a linear algebra newbie, 1) the real focus was on programming, not linear algebra and 2) the presentation of linear algebra was as abstract as you can possibly be. If I had gone through just the first 20 pages of this book first, so much would have been clear to me and the course would have been so much easier.
UPDATE: I'm now about 1/3 of the way through the book. So far, it's still the single best resource I've seen for learning linear algebra. It does get abstract and confusing at times, and this is taking into account that I've worked with several other resources, including an online course, another book, and a lot of Khan Academy videos. If you're brand new to linear algebra, the first chapter might seem fairly easy, but then it's going to get rough.
Nevertheless, although it's slow going for me, I have generally been able to figure out what the text was getting at. There are a few points so far that have left me puzzled. I haven't yet looked at the detailed answers to all of the exercises yet, so those may help.
UPDATE 2: I got a Paperwhite e-reader recently and I spent some time paging through this book on that. This was a by no means comprehensive analysis, but it appeared that everything was at least legible on the Paperwhite. Some of the tables had some fairly small text, but nothing I couldn't read. So it's probably feasible to read this on a Paperwhite.

probably the best book in linear algebra

I've read other books on linear algebra such as those from Strang but none of them are as good as this one. The topics are presented in a very organized and understandable way. I also love that the author provides a detailed solutions to all the exercises. It was very helpful.

Well worth it

I used it in conjunction with my other materials for a L.A course. I actually prefer this to the other text, especially as the order of presentation seems more sensible. Also, if you have trouble with proofs, this book does an *amazing* job of breaking proofs down. It even discusses the strategies chosen. If you're used to reading proofs, that can sometimes seem a little wordy, but since many (most?) students struggle with proofs I admire the integration of the technique of proofs along side the proofs.
I got it as a Kindle doc, and as other users have noted it's challenging on a Kindle reader due to scaling issues. It's more an issue of having the wrong instrument for the text than a problem with the text. I used my full sized tablet, and that's where it shines. I recommend it highly!
